Why do I need rent receipts?
Salaried employees claiming House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption usually have to submit rent receipts to their employer as proof of rent paid.
When is the landlord's PAN required?
If the annual rent paid exceeds ₹1,00,000, employers typically require the landlord's PAN. If the landlord has no PAN, a declaration from the landlord is usually needed instead.
Is a revenue stamp needed?
Receipts for cash payments above ₹5,000 conventionally carry a revenue stamp signed by the landlord. For payments made by bank transfer or UPI, many employers don't require one — check with your employer.
